All Power Vinyasa, Vinyasa & Ashtanga classes
will be taught in a warm room (apx., 80 degrees). The classes are taught in a warm room to keep the muscles warm and
pliable -- the heat also helps to purify the body by removing toxins through the sweat. It is recommended that
students bring a towel and water to class. Be prepared to sweat!!
Vinyasa - means to flow or link one movement into the next while coordinating
each movement with the breath.
Om - (Aum) is a letter in the sanskrit alphabet which encompasses all
aspects of sound. Om is a sacred symbol which is regarded as the basis of all mantras, prayers and sound. Om is
the symbol for the sound of creation which never ceases.
Namaste - means "the light in me, honors
the light in you"
Ujjayi Breathing - means "victorious breath". Ujjayi is an audible
breathing technique which is used as a mantra to quiet and focus the mind during yoga practice. Ujjayi breathing can
transform your yoga practice into a moving meditation. It is difficult to practice ujjayi breathing without
engaging core lift (mulabandha and uddiyana bandha) -- Ujjayi helps to deepen the bandha engagement. Ujjayi
breathing fully expands the lungs, oxygenates the body & helps to quiet the mind.
Prana - is another word for "life-force". Mulabhandha,
Uddiyanha Bandha, and Jalandhara Bandha regulate the flow of prana throughout the body.
Asana - means "posture".
Drishti - means "looking out/looking in" ....drishti is a point
of gaze or focus to help you keep your balance and focus during practice.
Shanti - means "equilibrium" or "peace".
